5 Greatest PS3 Exclusives Games Of All Time

5. L.A. Noire

Sure, not much is known about L.A. Noire except that it’s being published by Rockstar and supposedly is one of the largest budgeted games in development. It also is guaranteed to take place in a unique setting – a recreated, 1940s Los Angeles (that’s pre-freeways Los Angeles, if you can imagine such a thing), and seems to be dripping with atmosphere if the trailer is any indication of what the game has in hold.

Remember the movie L.A. Confidential? The one where Russell Crowe plays as a detective who throws his weight around and will do anything, including planting evidence, to convict someone he knows to be guilty? Where Guy Pearce played the young, upshot detective, who, working with Crowe, brings down the chief of police of Los Angeles on murder charges?

L.A. Noire seems to be a game based upon that sort of story. A dark, drug-riddled, jazz-infested, Los Angeles where crimes must be solved by any means possible. Sounds intriguing, no?

4. Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer

Developed by Quantam Dream (who created the excellent game Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy), Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer looks like a blast.

Borrowing heavily from movie thrillers along the lines of Seven, Heavy Rain looks like a tension and fear-soaked thriller with killer graphics, and pretty amazing emergent gaming technology.

In Heavy Rain, you play throughout the game as four different characters all on the hunt for a serial killer known as the Origami Killer. What’s original about the gameplay is that each character can die – and if they die, they are no longer in the game – the story changes based upon what happens to the characters, and so, each gameplay experience will be vastly different based upon how you perform and whether or not you manage to keep the characters alive.

The game will feature believable characters and a deep story, and action-packed sequences that run on Quicktime, in which you hit a series of buttons in order to survive an attack or to accomplish another task.

Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer looks to be an awesome PS3 exclusive and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

3. MAG

Set in a dark, 2025 world, MAG, or, Massive Action Game, not only looks pretty, but features a stunning array of gaming innovations, including, most excitedly, the ability to have 256 player online battles.

Not only does the game feature a gigantic number of players on one battlefield, but as you rise through ranks, you gain command privileges. So, if you play frequently enough, you will be able to control the action and direct players on where to go. The goal of the command structure feature is to allow players to “have a greater sense of responsibility and effect on the larger battle at hand.”

Although 256 players will be on the battlefield at once, the developers hope that the battlefield command structure will create small-scale skirmishes across the landscape. These small squad battle situations will affect the whole of the battle and allow players to feel that they are making a contribution to their team’s effort without being overwhelmed by hundreds of people surrounding them at once. The squad battle situations will take place all over the map, allowing for an authentic battle look and feel.

The other night, I was playing Battlefield: Bad Company online; hearing the explosions all around and gunfire rattling across the distances of the game’s battlefields, I could only begin to imagine how huge the battles in MAG will be. 256 players is a huge battlefield. I’m excited to see how this plays out.

2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2 wowed E3 09. While Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was a great game that had strong sales figures and likewise, strong reviews, Uncharted 2 is raising the bar by about a million.

The gameplay demo that wowed everyone so much is truly fantastic. Nathan and his new partner, Chloe, find themselves in a crumbling city high in the Himalayas on a search for Shangri-La, and the Cintamani stone, a huge raw sapphire that would be worth billions. As they climb a building and rappel to another, they encounter a helicopter, which begins an epic fight for their lives as they run to avoid bullets and enemy soldiers.

The interactions between Chloe and Nathan are funny and realistic, and the graphics are truly gorgeous. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has the potential to be a serious game of the year contender.

1. God Of War III

God Of War III is a guarantee.

Just watch the below gameplay video from E3 09. It is ridiculous. I don’t even need to talk about this game – it’s just going to be that good. Seriously.

At Terminal Gamer we’re constantly keeping our eyes on titles across all platforms and we cannot wait for these PS3 exclusives to arrive.
