Games Industry the Best at Regulating Mature Content: FTC

Further proof that violent videogames are not the corruptors of childhood innocence, as they are often portrayed, comes from the U.S. government itself.

In a report to Congress, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has found that between mature music, movies, and games, it’s actually games that are the least likely to end up being sold to minors.

Additionally, the report states that the videogame industry “outpaces” the others when it comes to the appropriate marketing of mature products by ensuring that products are properly labelled – for which it commended the ESRB – and targeted at intended audiences.

Though the games industry is ahead of the pack, the FTC still feels that all three sectors should make their advertising more precisely focused on adults, and their ratings system more comprehensive.
