Pakistan may have come to Abu Dhabi with of much of apprehensions and match fixing allegations. But they have out everything aside and played a fantabulous match with kiwis.
Shahid Afridi had a great day out and he shone with the bat as well as the ball to rout New Zealand with a 138-run defeat. Now that’s like super star of the match not just man of the match.
On Tuesday the two teams clashed in the opening match of their 3-match ODI series in Abu Dhabi. Right from toss everything fell in place for Pakistan; looked like.
The Asian team won the toss and decided to bat first. Although there were a couple of run outs they could still make a brilliant 287 and it was a good effort by Afridi who scored a blistering 70 and Khalid Latif and Kamran Akmal contributed with their willows with some brilliant 64 and 67 not out, respectively. Daniel Vettori was the man who shone with the ball scalping two Pakistan wickets and bowled some tight length and gave just 34 runs in his 10-overs spell. However, with the middle order chipping in they could pile up 287 runs asking the kiwis to chase 288 for a win.
The Black caps should have chased it with some strategy; they have had not a bad start given from Aaron Redmond and Brendon McCullum; however once McCullum fell it was the middle order followed their way soon to dressing room with only Vettori playing sensibly. Afridi, Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal deserve special mention and praise here. They didn’t give room for scoring as well as took wickets in quick succession. The kiwi batters were sent packing for mere 149 giving huge 138-runs margin victory for the Pakistan. Now they will go with rise in confidence to the second ODI. Younis Khan must have had a great relief from the way his boys chipped in although there have been some lapses in fielding, he will now look forward to prove that Pakistan is not a match-fixing but a match-winning team.
While Vettori will not leave any stone unturned and he with his team will put the defeat aside and look forward to a fresh game with a fresh mind frame. In all, Abu Dhabi has excitement loaded for cricket fans.
