Since its debut at E3 earlier this year, Sony’s motion controller has yet to receive an official name. With both the PlayStation ‘wand’ and Microsoft’s Natal set for release sometime next year, I’m puzzled as to why Sony is so hesitant to give their new product a name.
Well, it looks like they have now… at least, accidentally.
EA’s CEO John Riccitello may have spilled the beans earlier this morning at the UBS 37th Annual Global Media Conference when he discussed the two motion controllers that will debut next year.
Here’s what he said:
“In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace.”
When IGN asked Sony about the comment, Sony responded, “No official name for the PlayStation motion controller has been announced.” Big surprise there. Additionally, EA wouldn’t confirm whether or not what Mr. Riccitello said was in fact true.
What do you think about “Gem” as the new name for Sony’s motion controller?
